PORT POLLENCA, CAP FORMENTOR, SA CALOBRA
Very scenic and very hilly ride taking in two of the best routes in Europe (and arguably the world). If possible try to catch the sunrise from Port de Pollença or from the climb up to Formentor viewing point, just above the fire plane base would be best.
Highlights: Cap Formentor, Col de Femenia, Sa Calobra and Coll dels Reis. The views. The excellent road surfaces.
What to be aware of: It's a long day in the saddle, usual precautions against the weather, hunger and thirst need to be taken. Most of the climbing takes place in the first 100km of the ride, so your average speed will pick up once you have reached the top of Coll dels Reis on your return leg. There are cafés or restaurants at Cap Formentor, Formentor beach, Pollença, Lluc and at the viaduct where you take the Sa Calobra turnoff then also at Port Sa Calobra.
Tour buses are an issue during the spring, summer and autumn tourist seasons, especially on the Sa Calobra climb (from 10:00) and the Cap Formentor leg (from 09:30). We recommend doing this route earlier in the morning.
